Why 33 Weeks Is My Favourite Time for Maternity Photos in Bendigo (and What to Know Before You Book)
Hey mamas-to-be,
One of the questions I get asked all the time is:
“When should I book my maternity photos?”
It’s such a good one, because timing makes all the difference in how comfortable you feel and how magical the photos look (lighting)
Over time, I’ve found that the sweet spot is usually between 32–37 weeks pregnant, with around 33 weeks
Here’s why that stage is just right, plus some tips for mums here in Bendigo and surrounds who are planning their maternity photography session.
Why 33 Weeks Works So Well
Your bump is beautifully round – by this stage, your baby bump has popped enough to show clearly in photos, but you’re usually not yet at the stage where walking or moving is super uncomfortable
You still have some energy – many mums find their final weeks tougher on the body. Booking earlier (around that 33-week mark) helps you feel more relaxed during the session.
Wardrobe flexibility – flowy dresses, soft fabrics and layers look gorgeous at this stage, and you’re still mobile enough to walk across a field or beach without it being a struggle.
Choosing a Location Around Bendigo
Bendigo is full of beautiful spots that work perfectly for maternity photography. Golden hour at Rosalind Park, quiet corners at Lake Weeroona & Botanical or even out among the bushland reserves and the many rivers surrounding; there are so many stunning options that bring warmth and natural light to your photos
We can chat about what feels right for you: do you want a dreamy outdoor shoot at sunset, or something more intimate at home?
What to Wear & Bring
For maternity photos, I recommend soft, neutral tones that don’t distract from your bump. Flowing dresses, wraps, or even simple fitted tops paired with skirts can photograph beautifully. Bring layers if it’s cool, and don’t forget water and flat shoes if we’re walking around Bendigo on-location.
Ready to Book?
If you’re coming up to that 32–37 week mark, it’s a perfect time to book your maternity photography session in (it’s never too late, really) These weeks go by so quickly, and you’ll never regret capturing this chapter.
I’d love to help you celebrate your growing bump, whether it’s at a park, in the Bendigo bush, or in the comfort of your home.
Get in touch to secure your spot—I book sunrise and sunset sessions in advance, and I’d love to make sure we find a time that works
